Medical advancements in interventional cardiology continue to expand across Latin America. In Venezuela, the Venezuelan Society of Interventional Cardiology (SOVECI) held its XXIII Congress in Caracas on October 9 and 10, 2026, to provide scientific updates on coronary intervention and structural cardiology. Additionally, the Ciudad Hospitalaria Dr. Enrique Tejera in Valencia has been conducting monthly sessions to treat approximately 20 patients with severe cardiovascular events using ultrasound-guided punctures and radiological projections. In Caracas, the Hospital Dr. José María Vargas recently completed its first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) sessions, using percutaneous access via the femoral artery to treat severe aortic stenosis.

In Nicaragua, the Hospital Fernando Vélez Paiz has reported performing over 500 coronary procedures and more than 24 transcatheter aortic valve replacements in the past year. Specialist Dr. Bayardo Ordóñez noted that these minimally invasive catheter techniques allow for faster recovery by avoiding open-heart surgery.

In Mexico, the ISSSTE institute has successfully utilized wireless pacemaker technology, performing implantations in Monterrey, Mexico City, and Culiacán. These 1.75-gram devices are implanted directly into the heart to reduce infection risks. Meanwhile, in the Dominican Republic, the Centro Médico Moderno (MCA) launched a percutaneous mitral valve replacement program, successfully treating a high-risk patient with a Myval valve, allowing for discharge within 24 hours of the intervention.
