The accident, attributed to driver fatigue, caused the vehicle to strike a retaining wall and scatter cargo across the roadway. While the driver escaped without significant injury, the incident caused traffic disruptions and required intervention from the National Guard and emergency responders. Later in the month, a separate rollover involving a trailer carrying apples occurred on the Mexico-Querétaro highway near San Juan del Río. The accident, which took place near kilometer 151 in the direction of Palmillas, involved approximately 70 tons of apples. The heavy vehicle blocked all three lanes, causing a total collapse of traffic. Authorities suggested that excessive speed may have been a contributing factor. The incident was complicated by looting, as individuals in private vehicles arrived to collect the fruit scattered across the asphalt. The National Guard coordinated the scene, utilizing cranes and backhoes to remove the vehicle and clear the spilled produce. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-18: Mexico-Querétaro Highway blocked by apple truck rollover A trailer carrying 70 tons of apples overturned on the Mexico-Querétaro highway in San Juan del Río, causing total traffic collapse and reports of looting as the cargo spilled across the road. 11 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/mexico-quertaro-highway-traffic-blocked-after-apple-truck-overturns ### 2026-09-03: Trailer carrying tomatoes overturns on highway in Apaseo el Grande A tomato-laden trailer overturned on the Apaseo-Celaya highway in Guanajuato after the driver reportedly fell asleep, causing significant material damage and traffic disruptions. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/trailer-carrying-tomatoes-overturns-on-highway-in-apaseo-el-grande --- Cite as: Cargo truck accidents on Mexican highways.
