The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) released preliminary 2026 results for CAPE and CSEC examinations, showing mixed regional trends. While mathematics pass rates improved in territories such as Jamaica and Guyana, the subject continues to present challenges. To combat underperformance, the CXC launched the Caribbean Targeted Education Certificate (CTEC), a modularized system designed to divide subjects into smaller components.

Concerns were raised regarding student well-being and absenteeism, with approximately 35,900 candidates—about 35 per cent of those registered—failing to attend exams. Experts linked this to psychological shifts and a fear of failure among students.

In Guyana, the release of results prompted political commentary from the PNCR/APNU, which encouraged graduates to pursue higher education or vocational training. Observations in Guyana also indicated a narrowing performance gap between urban and rural areas, as well as between public and private institutions, which has been attributed to increased funding, curriculum reviews, and improved teacher training.
