The city of Cartagena is pursuing various initiatives to promote economic development and cultural engagement through large-scale events.

Initially, the Cartagena City Council, led by Mayor Noelia Arroyo, sought to host national basketball and gymnastics championships. This strategy aimed to utilize sports tourism to increase hotel occupancy and boost revenue for local commerce and services by attracting athletes and spectators.

Following these sports-focused efforts, the city announced a five-day Hispanidad program scheduled for October 8 to 12. This program includes over thirty cultural, educational, and business activities designed to highlight the historical and modern ties between Spain and the Americas. The event features musical performances, historical conferences, and business networking through the Hispanotec network, including meetings between Spanish entrepreneurs and international visitors.
