The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Affairs, and Environmental Policy of Castilla y León has introduced new regulations regarding the use of night vision and thermal imaging devices in big game hunting. Effective September 30, the order permits the transport, possession, and use of these devices during night-time ‘aguardo’ or ‘espera’ (waiting) modalities for wild boar, even if the devices are mounted on the weapon.

For other authorized species, such as deer, roe deer, and mouflon, the regulations allow the use of electronic devices for locating animals, provided they are not used as telescopic sights mounted directly on a firearm. The regional government stated that these devices have proven to be “selective rather than massive in their application.” The measure is intended to improve wildlife population management and mitigate agricultural damage, traffic accidents, and health risks linked to wildlife interaction.
