Discussions regarding the legacy and history of Catalan music have centered on the work and influence of singer-songwriter Lluís Llach.

Recent developments include an upcoming event in Barcelona titled ‘Cançó, ahir i avui’ (Song, yesterday and today), organized by the Lluís Llach Foundation and the SGAE Foundation. The panel, featuring Llach alongside Lluís Meseguer and Xantal Rodríguez, aims to examine the history and future of the genre through academic and contemporary lenses.

This cultural focus is contextualized by historical accounts of Llach’s role in the 1970s anti-Francoist struggle. Memoirs highlight his involvement in the movement for Catalan independence and the defense of the Catalan language, specifically noting the political and intellectual significance of his musical adaptations during a period of social tension in Barcelona.
