The Holy Rosary is characterized as a central Catholic devotion and a contemplative prayer used to meditate on the life and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the intercession of the Virgin Mary.

Historically, the devotion is linked to Saint Dominic de Guzmán and was used to commemorate the Christian victory at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. It has spread globally, notably through Europe and Latin America.

In contemporary contexts, religious leaders such as Cardinal Tobin have described the Rosary as a ‘nonviolent weapon in the struggle for peace,’ serving as an antidote to spiritual indifference and a means for active peacemaking.
