The Central Bank of Egypt has implemented several measures regarding monetary policy and digital financial infrastructure.

Initially, the bank maintained its key interest rates for the fourth consecutive time, holding the overnight deposit rate at 19% and the lending rate at 20% following an assessment of inflation trends. During this period, specific banking regulations remained in place, including daily cash withdrawal limits for branches and ATMs, as well as transaction limits and fees for the InstaPay instant payment system.

Subsequently, the Central Bank approved new regulations for the Digital Financial Identity (DFI) platform. This framework introduces electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) services, allowing customers to open accounts and access financial products through digital channels without visiting physical branches. Governor Hassan Abdalla noted that the regulations cover governance, technical requirements, and cybersecurity to support Egypt’s transition to a digital economy and promote financial inclusion.

Under these approved rules, the DFI system enables banks to identify and verify customers digitally, supporting the electronic acceptance of terms and conditions and utilizing electronic authentication as a substitute for handwritten signatures. The framework is also designed to facilitate easier data updates for users.
