Political activity is increasing ahead of municipal elections in Central Europe. In late August, candidates announced their intentions for local leadership roles, including Marian Kotleba in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, and Jakub Hruška in Brno, Czech Republic.

By early September, candidate lists were released for several Slovak municipalities ahead of the October 24, 2026, elections. In Dolná Poruba, the mayoral race features incumbent Zuzana Vániová, representing SMER-SD and Hlas-SD, against Kira Větříčková of the SNS. Eleven candidates are competing for five municipal council seats in the town. In Zohor, Martin Zálesňák is running as the sole independent candidate for mayor, while 13 candidates—comprising twelve independents and one KDH representative—contest 11 council seats.

Further candidate registrations have been finalized in other regions. In Senica, three independent candidates—current mayor Martin Džačovský, Ladislav Ďorďovič, and Roman Krištofík—are running for mayor, with 66 candidates competing for 19 city council seats across four districts. In Sabinov, the mayoral contest involves Erik Radačovský, supported by a four-party coalition, and the incumbent independent mayor Michal Repaský. In Giraltovce, Peter Hruška (Smer-SD) will face incumbent Pavol Tchurík (Hlas-SD).

Additionally, four candidates are running for mayor in Veľký Šariš: Antónia Gaálová, Ingrida Gorcovská, Dominik Icha, and Štefan Krochmaľ, while Lipany will see three candidates competing for the post. Other registration processes continue in Revúca and Rožňava, where incumbent Michal Domik is among five male candidates registered for the Rožňava mayoral office.
