Experts report that the current season is exceptionally poor, with some describing it as the worst in recent memory. In areas like Šumava, foragers have noted that even when mushrooms appear, they are often small, dried out, and of poor quality. Mycology expert Jan Borovička observed that since 2014, there have been very few years characterized by truly abundant growth. 

Biological factors contribute to the low yield, as the mycelium requires specific combinations of moisture and temperature to trigger the formation of fruiting bodies. Even following heavy thunderstorms, the preceding period of excessive dryness can prevent successful mushroom development.
