Sources: 13. Developments: 2. CFR Cluj manager Marius Șumudică has undergone a period of internal friction following a loss to U Cluj and a subsequent 0-1 defeat against UTA Arad. Initially, Șumudică addressed his coaching methods, noting a shift toward ‘paraverbal’ communication to manage team dynamics, while requesting that media avoid questions regarding rival clubs. Following the loss to UTA Arad, which left the team in 9th place in the SuperLiga, Șumudică threatened to resign, citing frustration with the players’ lack of aggression and attitude. He indicated that he would not continue if his expectations did not align with club leadership. In response, club owner Ioan Varga reaffirmed his support for the manager, clarifying that Șumudică’s criticisms were aimed at player performance rather than management. Varga also noted ongoing efforts to resolve the club’s financial difficulties and described the current period as a ‘transition year’ aimed at providing a better squad. Amidst these ongoing financial and sporting tensions, defender Christopher Braun has signed a contract extension with the club for another season. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-19: CFR Cluj faces internal tension amid insolvency and poor form CFR Cluj coach Marius Șumudică has threatened to resign due to player attitude and insolvency issues, though owner Ioan Varga maintains his support for the manager. 13 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/cristiano-bergodi-seeks-departure-from-universitatea-cluj ### 2026-10-16: Marius Șumudică discusses coaching style and declines FCSB questions CFR Cluj coach Marius Șumudică discussed his use of paraverbal communication to motivate players and refused to comment on rivals FCSB and Laurențiu Reghecampf during a recent press conference. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/marius-umudic-discusses-coaching-style-and-declines-fcsb-questions --- Cite as: CFR Cluj coaching and management tensions.
