In early October 2026, stakeholders in the Moyen-Chari province met in Sarh to strengthen cooperation among agropastoral mediators. Supported by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, the meeting addressed tensions regarding land access, water points, and transhumance routes, while also discussing food security and market stability. By late October 2026, the focus expanded to a national scale. The High Council of Traditional Chieftaincies organized a forum in Mongo, involving traditional authorities from all 23 provinces. This national meeting, held under the patronage of President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, aimed to develop a roadmap and an early warning system for disputes. The initiative seeks to integrate traditional leadership with territorial administration and security forces to foster social cohesion. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-25: Chad traditional leaders to convene in Mongo to prevent community conflicts Traditional leaders from Chad's 23 provinces will meet in Mongo from October 29-31 to develop mediation strategies and an early warning system to address community and agro-pastoral conflicts. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/chad-traditional-leaders-to-convene-in-mongo-to-prevent-community-conflicts ### 2026-10-04: Moyen-Chari mediators meet to prevent farmer-herder conflicts Stakeholders in Chad's Moyen-Chari province met in Sarh to enhance agropastoral mediation and prevent conflicts between farmers and herders ahead of the transhumance season. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/moyen-chari-mediators-meet-to-prevent-farmer-herder-conflicts --- Cite as: Chad community conflict prevention initiatives.
