Chance the Rapper, born Chancelor Jonathan Bennett, has expressed interest in rebranding his stage name to ‘The Rapper’. During an appearance on the ‘Tea Time’ podcast with Raven-Symoné and Miranda Maday, the artist discussed his desire to move away from his current moniker, which he noted was given to him by a high school acquaintance.

Bennett explained that the potential change stems from a desire to focus more on the art form and the hip-hop genre rather than personal vulnerability. He described his fascination with language and songwriting, stating that he views great rappers as ‘etymologists and linguists at heart’. While he has used his current name for over 15 years, he indicated that he has been thinking about this change frequently of late. No official rebranding date has been announced.
