During a 100-day countdown event, organizers unveiled the official torch, named ‘Ji Xiang’ (Auspicious Flight), and the medals, named ‘Ji Meng’ (Auspicious Dream). The torch design incorporates motifs of the clivia flower, filmstrips, and ski lines, while the medals feature designs inspired by skate blades and the ‘First Jade Bird of Ancient China’. The flame for the games was officially lit at the University of Turin, Italy, on October 8. In a ceremony involving Changchun Mayor Gu Gang and FISU President Leonz Eder, a torch from the inaugural 1959 Universiade was used to light the cauldron. Following the ceremony, the flame traveled through historic sites in Turin, including the Egyptian Museum, before arriving at the Polytechnic University of Turin for safekeeping. The flame is now beginning its journey toward China, where a welcoming ceremony is expected in Changchun on October 14. Organizers expressed confidence that the event will attract record numbers of participating delegations and serve as a bridge for cultural exchange between the East and West. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-09: Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade flame lit in Turin The flame for the 2027 Winter Universiade was lit in Turin, Italy, beginning its journey to Changchun, China, for the games scheduled for January 2027. 18 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/changchun-2027-winter-universiade-flame-lit-in-turin ### 2026-10-07: Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade unveils torch and medals Organizers of the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade have unveiled the official torch and medals, while the ceremonial flame was lit in Turin, Italy, marking the start of the journey to China. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/changchun-2027-winter-universiade-unveils-medals-and-torch --- Cite as: Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade preparations.
