The Charlotte Hornets began their preseason with a 124-90 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, a game in which they played without key players Coby White, Brandon Miller, and Kon Knueppel. Despite the deficit, Naz Reid was utilized as a focal point in the first half, and Grayson Allen led early scoring. During the preseason, the Hornets rebounded from significant losses by defeating the Milwaukee Bucks 105-90. Brandon Miller returned to the lineup after recovering from an injury, scoring 18 points, while Naz Reid contributed 16 points and Moussa Diabaté recorded 11 rebounds. Transitioning into the 2026-27 season, the Hornets secured a 110-103 victory over the Nets in their season opener, marking their sixth consecutive season-opening win. The team relied on strong defense, high-volume three-point shooting, and a 38.5% offensive rebound rate. Brandon Miller provided a scoring spark, Moussa Diabate contributed defensively, and Naz Reid recorded 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists in his team debut. Following the opener, the Hornets defeated the Miami Heat 115-110 at Spectrum Center, improving their record to 2-1. Although the Heat mounted a late comeback fueled by a 27-6 run, they were unable to overcome Charlotte, partly due to Giannis Antetokounmpo fouling out during the contest. The victory left Miami at 0-3, their first such start since 2007. However, the Hornets' momentum was interrupted by a massive 128-81 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, a defeat that set a new franchise record for the Hawks due to the 47-point margin. The Hornets rebounded from that loss by defeating the Heat again with a 115-110 score, led by Brandon Miller’s 34 points. They followed this with a 110-103 victory over the Washington Wizards, where Miller recorded a career-high 39 points.
