The Chihuahua Secretariat of Education and Sports (SEyD) continues to implement structural and administrative reforms for the upcoming academic cycle. A key development includes the Board of Directors of Educational Services of the State of Chihuahua (SEECH) elevating the Department of Indigenous, Migrant, and Mennonite Education to a full Directorate to provide specialized, culturally relevant pedagogical models.

To support the 2026-2027 school year, authorities are coordinating with the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) to update an occupational structure that has been stagnant for 11 years. This includes efforts to expand upper secondary coverage in Ciudad Juárez through new campuses and middle school conversions. Additionally, the state confirmed the distribution of over 4.5 million free textbooks starting 19 August. Labor discussions with the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) regarding the 2026-2027 Operational Guide are ongoing to ensure administrative clarity and labor rights.

Safety and legal frameworks are also being prioritized. A new Local Framework has been presented to align state regulations with federal guidelines on bullying, sexual violence, and digital abuse. In terms of institutional oversight, SEyD, led by Secretary Francisco Hugo Gutiérrez Dávila, has issued 43 authorization and official validity of studies (RVOE) agreements to private educational institutions.

In recognition of Teacher’s Day 2026, SEyD, SEECH, and SNTE Section 8 held an awards ceremony at the Plaza de la Revolución. A total of 94 educators and support staff received prizes, including 14 vehicles, 40 laptops, and 40 television screens. Eduardo Antonio Zendejas Amparán, general secretary of SNTE Section 8, noted the budget for this edition was 5.6 million pesos, an increase from the 1.6 million pesos allocated in 2022.
