Data from the Civil Aeronautic Authority indicated that in September, passenger numbers reached 761,886, a 17.9% increase compared to the previous year. This surge in traffic has coincided with declining flight punctuality, with arrival punctuality at 77% and departure punctuality at 80%. While the increase in travelers has led to congestion and longer queues at checkpoints, planned modernization and expansion works at the airport have faced setbacks. Although officials initially anticipated work could commence in October, the tender process has been stalled by legal appeals from two economic agents. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development stated that the process must remain on hold until disputes are finalized through the National Agency for Settlement of Disputes. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-16: Chișinău International Airport modernization delayed by tender disputes Modernization of Chișinău International Airport is delayed due to tender disputes, despite an 18% increase in passenger traffic recorded in September. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/chiinu-international-airport-modernization-delayed-by-tender-disputes ### 2026-10-13: Chișinău Airport reports declining flight punctuality amid rising passenger traffic Flight punctuality at Chișinău Airport dropped to 80% for departures and 77% for arrivals in September, even as passenger traffic grew by 17.9% to over 761,000 travelers. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/chiinu-airport-reports-declining-flight-punctuality-amid-rising-passenger-traffic --- Cite as: Chișinău International Airport traffic and modernization.
