Chile’s nationwide effort to bridge the digital divide through school computer initiatives has expanded significantly through mid-2026. The Beca TIC 2026 program, backed by an investment exceeding 34 billion Chilean pesos, aims to distribute more than 96,000 new computers to seventh-grade students nationwide.

The rollout officially commenced in Visviri, where the first set of laptops was handed to students at the Visviri Internado School. Subsequent distributions have reached the Los Andes province, the Arica and Parinacota region, and the Tarapacá region. By late August, JUNAEB extended the program to the Aysén Region, beginning with 240 students in Coyhaique.

As of early September 2026, JUNAEB has reported significant progress in several other regions. In the Los Ríos Region, the distribution process has concluded with the delivery of 2,542 computers, including final phases in Panguipulli and Lanco. These devices, which include one year of free internet, were primarily allocated to public education students and those with special educational needs.

In the Antofagasta Region, the program has reached an 87% completion rate, with 4,538 computers distributed to seventh-grade students. Despite recent weather events, the rollout has extended to Mejillones, Antofagasta, San Pedro de Atacama, and Calama. All Beca TIC devices feature standardized specifications, including N150 processors, 128 GB SSDs, Full-HD screens, GPS anti-theft tracking, AI tools, and 12 months of free internet access.

Parallel to the state-led Beca TIC program, private-sector donations continue to support rural and remote schools, such as the Escuela Unidocente G-47 ‘El Guayacán’ and Escuela Rural Toquihue.
