In late July 2026, the Chilean Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation launched a Regional Innovation Table in Temuco. Inaugurated by Minister Ximena Lincolao at the Universidad Autónoma de Chile, the forum brings together 16 public, private, and academic bodies to coordinate technology transfer and align research with the needs of La Araucanía. Lincolao noted that “innovation is built from the territories and requires the participation of all actors.”

During the same period, Sub-Secretary Carolina Rossi Pantoja visited the Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research (INCAR²) in Concepción to review projects for sustainable aquaculture. Rossi Pantoja stated that “aquaculture is one of the most important sectors we have in Chile, and its growth shows the huge potential for further innovation.”

A week later, the ministry’s agenda expanded at the XLV Congreso de Ciencias del Mar in Concepción, where the Nodo Océano team presented work on the Humboldt Archipelago. Regional officials also outlined priorities including data-center industry development and expanding technology-transfer programmes.

By mid-August, the ministry shifted focus toward the Magallanes region, which Minister Lincolao identified as a strategic geopolitical asset for Antarctic studies. Lincolao highlighted the need to better utilize high-level infrastructure, such as the Cabo de Hornos Subantarctic Center and the Viel icebreaker, to increase scientific production. The government aims to transform the region into a scientific engine by focusing on biodiversity, salmon farming, and Antarctic research, supported by over 520 billion pesos in financing through the Ministry and ANID.
