In September 2026, the Chilean justice system issued significant sentences to members of the radical Mapuche group Resistencia Mapuche Lafkenche (RML). Following a 2022 armed attack on the Molino Grollmus industrial complex in the Biobío region, 18 defendants—including 15 adults and three adolescents—received a combined total of over 1,000 years in prison.

The Tribunal de Juicio Oral en lo Penal de Cañete convicted the group of arson, robbery with violence, attempted qualified homicide, and illegal possession of ammunition. The attack caused serious injuries to members of the Grollmus family. Security Minister Martín Arrau stated the sentences were a response to an act intended to “sow terror.”
