Chilean port authorities have implemented measures to facilitate trade with Bolivia. In Arica, the Empresa Portuaria Arica and Terminal Puerto Arica removed restrictions on containerized cargo deconsolidation. This decision followed technical dialogues with Bolivian importers and transporters to address supply chain bottlenecks, allowing for more dynamic cargo fractionation and parcel classification within port facilities.

In Iquique, Empresa Portuaria de Iquique (EPI) reported increased cargo movement, noting that Bolivia remains the port’s primary market. To strengthen these ties, EPI hosted a delegation of 24 representatives from the Potosí Departmental Federation of Mining Cooperatives, an entity of Bolivia’s FENCOMIN. Coordinated by ProChile Tarapacá, the meeting aimed to consolidate the Tarapacá Region as a logistical corridor for Bolivian mineral exports. During the visit, EPI General Manager Rubén Castro Hurtado presented the port’s infrastructure and connectivity as part of a public-private synergy involving the Seremi of Mining, Iquique Terminal Internacional (ITI), Zofri S.A., and the Association of Iquique Industrials.

EPI also reported a 4% increase in total cargo movement between January and September compared to the previous year, totaling 2,671,721 tons. Specifically, cargo transit involving Bolivia grew by 9% in September, while exports saw a 58% increase.
