Sources: 7. Developments: 2. Efforts to address water scarcity and ecosystem preservation in Chile have expanded from educational initiatives to high-level advocacy for natural infrastructure. Initial efforts focused on regional student-led programs. In La Araucanía, students participated in a forum titled “Observamos, dialogamos y construimos propuestas para el cuidado del agua” to present research on how water insufficiency impacts local ecosystems. Simultaneously, the utility Nueva Atacama implemented “Water Cycle Fairs” in schools to teach students about water production and distribution to encourage responsible consumption. More recently, various organizations, including FSC Chile and the Asociación Parque Cordillera, have begun advocating for the protection of mountain ecosystems. These groups frame mountain forests as “strategic partners” and critical natural infrastructure that provide essential services such as water provision, carbon storage, and soil protection. Advocates are calling for financial support and compensation mechanisms to prevent the degradation of these ecosystems. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-01: Chilean organizations advocate for mountain ecosystems as strategic assets Chilean organizations are promoting mountain ecosystems as strategic natural infrastructure to ensure water security, biodiversity, and economic stability through new conservation alliances. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/chilean-organizations-advocate-for-mountain-ecosystems-as-strategic-assets ### 2026-09-30: Chilean students lead regional initiatives on water scarcity and conservation Students in Chile are engaging in regional forums and interactive fairs to study water scarcity, resource management, and the water cycle to promote environmental awareness. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/chilean-students-lead-regional-initiatives-on-water-scarcity-and-conservation --- Cite as: Chilean water and ecosystem conservation efforts.
