The China Rural Hypertension Control Program (CRHCP) has demonstrated that intensive blood pressure management can reduce the risk of all-cause dementia by 15 percent over a seven-year period.

The study involved 33,995 participants from 326 rural villages in China. The intervention utilized a low-tech model where trained non-physician community health workers managed medication adjustments and lifestyle coaching under physician supervision, rather than relying on traditional doctor-led models.

Results indicated that the intervention group achieved significantly greater blood pressure reductions compared to the standard care group. Specifically, the intervention group saw an average systolic reduction of 17.6 mmHg to 22 mmHg, while the incidence of dementia was 8.85 percent compared to 10.55 percent in the control group.
