Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa reported a growing trend of emigration, noting that 36 percent of Christians in Israel are considering leaving, with nearly half of those aged 18 to 29 expressing a desire to emigrate due to social distrust and legal uncertainty. In the West Bank, movement restrictions such as military checkpoints and road closures have impacted the economy and access to essential services. These barriers have reportedly led to lethal consequences by preventing families from reaching medical care. Further economic strain is attributed to the collapse of pilgrimage tourism, which has devastated local families working as merchants, artisans, and guides. Regina Lynch of the Aid to the Church in Need (AIS) Foundation reported that some families have been forced to sell all their possessions to survive. The situation is compounded by the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and a broader humanitarian crisis in Gaza. ## Timeline ### 2026-11-02: AIS Foundation warns of declining Christian presence in Holy Land The AIS Foundation warns that declining pilgrimage tourism is threatening the livelihoods of Christian communities in the Holy Land, while new prayer initiatives aim to support persecuted Christians globally. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/ais-foundation-warns-of-declining-christian-presence-in-holy-land ### 2026-10-10: Holy Land faces Christian emigration and movement restrictions The Holy Land faces rising Christian emigration and severe humanitarian challenges, including movement restrictions in the West Bank that impact economic stability and access to medical care. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/holy-land-faces-christian-emigration-and-movement-restrictions --- Cite as: Christian community challenges in the Holy Land.
