Peruvian footballer Christian Cueva has experienced a resurgence in form while playing for Sport Boys in the Liga 1 2026 season. Following a period of inconsistency, Cueva has recorded three goals and five assists across 22 matches.

His improved performance has led to public calls for his return to the Peru national team. Journalist Pedro García has suggested that head coach Mano Menezes provide Cueva with specialized nutritional and personal training support to ensure his physical readiness for international duty. Reflecting on his career, Cueva has addressed past criticisms, including an incident during the 2018 World Cup, noting that he is now able to move past such challenges and remain focused on his professional commitments.

Recent commentary on the program ‘América Hoy’ has highlighted a perceived shift in Cueva’s temperament. Xiomy Kanashiro described him as being more “sincere, calm, and focused” than in previous months, suggesting his personal life may be contributing to this change. During a recent interview, Cueva became emotional while discussing his parents and expressing a desire for their forgiveness.

While observers like Edson Dávila have praised his renewed focus, others remain skeptical. Rebeca Escribens has questioned his current athletic form, suggesting his recent presence in the sport may be “more symbolic than impactful.”
