Christian Wade, a winger for the Newcastle Red Bulls, began the 2026-27 Premiership rugby season approaching the all-time try-scoring record. At the start of the period, Wade had scored 100 tries, placing him just one score away from equaling the record of 101 career tries held by Chris Ashton.

During a 17-3 victory over the Sale Sharks at Kingston Park, Wade successfully scored his 101st try, equaling the all-time Premiership record. In windy and difficult conditions, Sale initially led 3-0 at halftime following a penalty by George Ford. Newcastle secured the win, their first league victory of the season, when Wade sprinted to the right corner in the 49th minute to reach the milestone. Captain George McGuigan added a second try via a line-out maul, while Josh Hodge contributed seven points through a conversion and two penalties.
