While accepting a founders award, Lorre criticized President Donald Trump, Melania Trump, and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Lorre used derogatory language regarding the President, including jokes regarding his health, and questioned the public’s acceptance of the First Lady. He compared Melania Trump unfavorably to former First Lady Michelle Obama, using disparaging descriptions of her background and character. Lorre noted that his professional instincts as a comedy writer compelled him to use the platform for humor rather than purely for the charity.
