Three men convicted of a sexual assault in Écija in March 2024 have filed appeals with the High Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA). The defendants, who face prison sentences between thirteen years and six months and fifteen years, are seeking to overturn a ruling by the Provincial Court of Seville.

The original conviction was based on findings that the men committed non-consensual sexual acts inside a vehicle by taking advantage of the victim’s alcohol intoxication. The sentence also included a twenty-year prohibition on approaching or communicating with the victim. 

Defense lawyers have challenged the ruling, arguing there was an “error in the assessment of evidence” and questioning the credibility of the testimony. However, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and representatives for the victim are opposing the appeals, pointing to evidence such as DNA reports and security camera footage.
