The City of Parramatta has moved forward with several local initiatives. The Council endorsed a revised concept design for the $28.3 million Western River Precinct Connections Project, which intends to link the Parramatta CBD with the river foreshore, Parramatta Park, and major attractions like CommBank Stadium through new bridges, boardwalks, and accessible pathways. The design includes environmental protections such as elevated walkways and new wetland habitats.

In community and tourism news, the council opened nominations for the 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards to recognize local volunteering and leadership. Parramatta’s local tourism and fitness sectors have also received regional recognition. The city’s New Year’s Eve celebration earned the Gold Award for ‘Best Events Campaign – Councils’ at the Western Sydney Tourism Awards, following a 2025 event that attracted over 70,000 attendees and generated approximately $13.4 million in local spending.

Furthermore, the Parramatta Aquatic Centre’s health club was named Health Club of the Year at the NSW Aquatic & Recreation Institute (ARI) Awards. The facility was honored for its inclusive fitness programming, including yoga, Reformer Pilates, and aqua fitness, designed to support community wellbeing and accessibility.
