The hotel industry in Ciudad Juárez is facing significant economic distress following the cancellation of residence visa appointments at the U.S. Consulate, a disruption that began on August 26. Rogelio González, head of the Association of Hotels and Motels, reported that room rentals in the consulate sector have decreased by 50 percent. This downturn has resulted in the closure of two hotels, with one remaining out of operation. Industry leaders expressed concern over potential losses reaching 50 million pesos. Local business representatives met with U.S. Consul Katherine Beamer to discuss the situation. While the consul was reportedly open to sharing information, the industry remains in a state of uncertainty, with some estimates suggesting consular services may not resume until as late as January. To mitigate the impact of lost consular tourism, the association intends to promote alternative events to attract guests. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-03: Ciudad Juárez hoteliers face 50 million peso loss from visa cancellations Hoteliers in Ciudad Juárez face estimated losses of 50 million pesos following the suspension of U.S. residence visa appointments, causing a 50% drop in local room rentals. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/ciudad-jurez-hoteliers-face-50-million-peso-loss-from-visa-cancellations ### 2026-09-29: Ciudad Juárez receives 1.5 million pesos for housing improvement program Coesvi is launching a 1.5 million peso housing improvement program in Ciudad Juárez, offering interest-free credits for construction materials to local families. 10 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/ciudad-jurez-receives-15-million-pesos-for-housing-improvement-program --- Cite as: Ciudad Juárez hotel industry economic impact.
