A Vatican probe into the Šalata seminary in Zagreb alleged that retired Bishop Antun Škvorčević of Požega engaged in a systematic cover-up regarding the sexual abuse of a minor seminarian. Testimonies suggested that the Bishop ordered the destruction of documents unfavorable to the accused or himself, with a priest reporting that extensive digital and physical evidence went missing after being handed to the Bishop. Despite being informed of the abuse in 2012, Škvorčević reportedly concluded no abuse occurred and did not contact police. Separately, the Zagreb Archdiocese has faced accusations of delaying the reporting of a minor's abuse allegation against a priest for five years. While a complaint was filed in 2021, the Archdiocese only reported the matter to the Zagreb police in October 2024 following media inquiries. Although the priest was briefly relieved of duties after the initial complaint, he was later reassigned to roles as a chaplain and parish vicar under the leadership of Archbishop Dražen Kutleša. Zagreb police have launched a criminal investigation into the matter. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-12: Zagreb Archdiocese accused of delaying report of minor abuse The Zagreb Archdiocese reportedly waited five years to report a 2021 minor abuse allegation against a priest to police, following which the priest received new ecclesiastical assignments. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/zagreb-archdiocese-accused-of-delaying-report-of-minor-abuse ### 2026-09-15: Vatican probe alleges Bishop Škvorčević covered up seminarian abuse A Vatican investigation alleges that retired Bishop Antun Škvorčević ordered the destruction of evidence to cover up the sexual abuse of a minor seminarian in Croatia. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vatican-probe-alleges-bishop-kvorevi-covered-up-seminarian-abuse --- Cite as: Clerical abuse investigations in Croatia.
