Biotechnology companies are advancing clinical trials for topical gel treatments targeting diabetic foot infections and ulcers.

In Australia, Recce Pharmaceuticals has received ethics committee approval to expand its Phase 3 clinical trial for RECCE 327 Topical Gel (R327G). The expanded protocol includes a randomized, active-controlled study arm involving 208 patients to compare the gel against four physician-selected antibiotics. The trial also incorporates wound imaging via digital photography to provide objective measurements.

Concurrently, US-based Lakewood-Amedex Biotherapeutics is preparing for a Phase 2a clinical trial of Nu-3, a topical Bisphosphocin gel. This treatment is designed to combat infectious diseases and antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains by physically disrupting bacterial membranes.

Lakewood-Amedex was recently named a ‘Featured Company’ by B2i Digital, a designation intended to help the firm present its clinical programs and scientific milestones to a broader network of retail and institutional market participants.
