Sources: 16. Developments: 4. Following the dismissal of Paulo César Wanchope after a 0-1 defeat against San Carlos, Club Sport Herediano has entered a period of dual leadership. Jafet Soto has assumed the roles of both coach and president to manage the club’s sporting crisis. Addressing the ongoing instability and coaching turnover, Soto stated that the institution “respects player contracts and does not separate players based solely on on-field performance.” Additionally, Soto leveled criticisms against the Fox television network, alleging the network attempted to “damage the club’s reputation.” After a winless streak lasting since September 12, Herediano secured a 3-0 victory against Municipal Pérez Zeledón during matchday 12 of the Apertura 2026 tournament. Following a scoreless first half, Daniel González, Allan Cruz, and Elías Aguilar—who converted a penalty—scored in quick succession during the second half. This result allowed Herediano to move out of last place, reaching ninth position in the standings with 11 points. Despite previous successes in the Clausura 2026, Supercopa, and Recopa, the team has entered a decisive period to avoid elimination from the next championship phase. To prepare for a critical match against sub-leader Cartaginés, Soto implemented tactical changes, including starting Luis Ronaldo Araya and moving Emerson Bravo to the bench. Herediano’s remaining schedule includes matches against four of the seven teams ranked above them, including Saprissa and Cartaginés, which may influence the race for general leadership and semifinal qualifications. ## Claims - Club Sport Herediano defeated Municipal Pérez Zeledón with a score of 3-0.
