The Colombian Maritime Authority (DIMAR) has issued consecutive flood alerts for the Pacific coast due to syzygy tide phenomena. 

In mid-August, an alert was issued for the period of August 11 to August 19, driven by the new moon phase. This alert targeted coastal communities in Cauca, Chocó, Nariño, and Valle del Cauca, with significant sea level projections for Buenaventura, Bahía Solano, and Tumaco. Authorities warned that high tides and intense currents posed risks to small vessels, fishermen, and tourism.

A subsequent alert was issued for the period between August 27 and September 4, 2026, driven by the full moon phase. This second period of rising sea levels is expected to impact similar sectors, including Bahía Solano, Guapi, Juanchaco, and Tumaco, with peak sea levels projected for August 31.
