While transfer rumors have linked the player to Manchester United, reports indicate his current focus is on physical recovery and maintaining his form for both club and country. Palmer’s injury management has prompted broader criticism regarding the density of the professional football calendar. Maheta Molango, executive director of the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA), characterized Palmer as a “victim of a sick calendar,” arguing that the volume of club and international fixtures is pushing athletes to their biological limits. The situation follows a trend of physical issues within the England squad, with several other players also forced to withdraw from recent international duties. Palmer has reportedly faced increasing injury frequency, having missed 26 matches across club and international levels during the previous season. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-29: Cole Palmer injury sparks debate over football calendar PFA executive Maheta Molango has criticized the football calendar after Cole Palmer's injury forced him out of the England squad, calling the player a victim of an increasingly congested fixture schedule. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/cole-palmer-injury-sparks-debate-over-football-calendar ### 2026-09-27: Cole Palmer prioritizes fitness and rehabilitation amid Manchester United rumors Chelsea star Cole Palmer is focusing on injury rehabilitation and physical conditioning rather than transfer rumors involving Manchester United. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/cole-palmer-prioritizes-fitness-and-rehabilitation-amid-manchester-united-rumors --- Cite as: Cole Palmer injury and football calendar debate.
