The Colombian Constitutional Court issued a ruling (Sentence C-080) that restricts the ability of elected public officials to resign from their current positions to run for different offices in upcoming regional elections. 

Electoral observer Juan Carlos Calderón España stated that the decision “closes the door” to officials who intended to resign to register for the 2027 elections. The Court emphasized that elected councilors and deputies must complete their current institutional mandates.
