Carlos Felipe Jaramillo-Grajales, a Colombian national, has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for aggravated identity theft, making false statements, and falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to vote in elections. Investigations by Homeland Security Investigations and other federal agencies revealed that Jaramillo-Grajales used the identity of a U.S. citizen to obtain a Florida driver’s license in 2003, as well as a U.S. passport. By falsely claiming he was a citizen born in Puerto Rico, he participated in multiple elections over approximately 20 years, including the 2020 general election. He had renewed his passport in 2023 and his driver’s license as recently as February 2024. In addition to the prison term, Jaramillo-Grajales received a federal deportation order to be executed upon completion of his sentence.
