Following the departure of Chris MacFarland to the Nashville Predators, Joe Sakic has decided to remain the general manager of the Colorado Avalanche indefinitely. Sakic, who also serves as the president of hockey operations, had previously taken over the GM role in June.

In a subsequent front-office move, the organization promoted Andrew Cogliano to assistant general manager. Cogliano, a former NHL forward and member of the 2022 Stanley Cup-winning Avalanche team, previously served as a special assistant to MacFarland for two seasons. Sakic characterized Cogliano as a “great communicator” whose skills would be “invaluable” to the team.
