The province of Agrigento and the town of Canicattì are observing the 38th anniversary of the mafia ambush that killed magistrate Antonino Saetta and his son, Stefano. The attack occurred on September 25, 1988, on the SS 640 highway near Agrigento and was carried out by Cosa Nostra.

During Legality Week, commemorations included laying a wreath at the monument in Contrada Giulfo, the site of the attack. Giorgio Mulè, Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, participated in the events, stating that while the mafia targeted Saetta to intimidate the judiciary, such attempts failed as the judge’s legacy now strengthens the fight against organized crime.

Additional ceremonies in Canicattì included a eucharistic celebration and visits to honor the memory of Blessed Judge Rosario Livatino, including a visit to the House of Memory and a photographic exhibition.
