In Palma Campania, the ‘Arte in Tour’ initiative was launched to place art within local businesses, while Veroli hosted training for dog owners to improve coexistence in shared spaces. Animal welfare efforts have expanded through various regional and national activities. In Bitonto, the ‘4 Zampe in Passerella’ parade, organized by the association ‘Qui la zampa Heart’ at the Villa comunale, featured a special category for dogs with difficult pasts to promote adoption. In Como, the photography project ‘Simbiosi d’anime’ by Maria Cristina Brandini and Giovanna Lovisetti Rathmaier seeks to showcase the connection between owners and pets while raising awareness against mistreatment. National efforts continue to highlight the 70th anniversary of the Carabinieri’s canine service, which utilizes specialized dogs for drug detection, explosives, and search and rescue. Rescue operations also include the Vigili del Fuoco in Trento, who recently rescued a dog from a drainage canal. These activities are supported by organizations such as the Lega Italiana Difesa Animali e Ambiente (LEIDAA), which focuses on rehabilitating abandoned animals, and ENPA, which works to protect animals from hazards like illegal traps in rural areas. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-24: Italy: Animal welfare and rescue efforts highlighted Italy sees a surge in animal welfare activities, from community dog shows in Bitonto and art projects in Como to specialized canine rescue operations by the Carabinieri and Vigili del Fuoco. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/animal-welfare-and-service-initiatives-highlighted-in-italy ### 2026-10-22: Local community initiatives launched in Palma Campania and Veroli Palma Campania hosts the ‘Arte in Tour’ exhibition across local shops on November 7, while Veroli offers a free dog ownership training course on November 14-15. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/local-community-initiatives-launched-in-palma-campania-and-veroli --- Cite as: Community and animal welfare initiatives in Italy.
