Developments: 2. The municipality of Como is facing local opposition regarding a proposed school reorganization plan for the 2027-2028 academic year. The administration intends to reduce the number of comprehensive institutes from eight to five, which includes the creation of a new institute, ‘Como Spina Verde’, through school mergers. The plan follows a 7.3% decline in student enrollment over the last three years. However, critics and the association Nova Como argue that the administration is using demographic shifts as an excuse for poor planning. Specific points of contention include the proposed closure of the Luigi Carluccio nursery school and the Sauro primary school, as well as the potential transformation of the Corridoni primary school into a parking garage. On September 27, 2026, hundreds of residents, including families and teachers, gathered to protest outside Palazzo Cernezzi. Organized by Nova Como, demonstrators used whistles to signal dissent against the measures proposed by Mayor Alessandro Rapinese’s administration. Association leaders Vincenzo Falanga and Teresa Minniti criticized the administration for prioritizing cost-cutting and numerical calculations over educational quality and long-term vision. They are calling for genuine dialogue with families and educators to prevent the dismantling of the local school network. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-27: Como residents protest municipal school reorganization plan Protests erupted in Como, Italy, as citizens and teachers used whistles to oppose a municipal plan to reorganize and reduce the number of local schools and comprehensive institutes. 13 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/como-faces-protests-over-proposed-school-reorganization-plan ### 2026-09-20: Nova Como protests Como school reorganization plan Nova Como has announced a protest in Como against a new school reorganization plan that seeks to reduce the number of local comprehensive institutes from eight to five. 9 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/paolo-fox-provides-zodiac-forecasts-for-september-20 --- Cite as: Como school reorganization plan protests.
