The Conference of Bishops of Togo (CET) convened its 143rd ordinary session in Kara from October 11 to October 16, 2026. The assembly addressed various ecclesiastical matters, including pastoral priorities, seminary training for the upcoming academic year, and the management of the Catholic University of West Africa.

Beyond religious administration, the bishops utilized the session to reflect on Togo’s national sociopolitical situation, focusing on themes of justice, human dignity, and social cohesion. The meeting also reviewed the outcomes of the first National Youth Days held in Atakpamé.

At the conclusion of the session, Bishop Jacques Danka Longa of Kara was elected president of the CET, succeeding Bishop Benoît Alowonou. Archbishop Isaac-Jogues Gaglo of Lomé was elected vice-president. The new leadership is expected to focus on advancing the Church’s mission and strengthening ecclesiastical communion within Togolese society.
