Developments: 2. New York Attorney General Letitia James has faced scrutiny regarding her professional conduct and impartiality. In mid-October 2026, James was accused of hypocrisy by former adviser Richard Azzopardi following the release of personnel records belonging to Daniel Wiesenfeld, a whistleblower within the Investor Protection Bureau. Wiesenfeld had alleged that management pressured him to investigate Donald Trump for insider trading without sufficient evidence. Azzopardi noted there is “no daylight” between James’ release of these records and previous instances where her office labeled the release of staffer records as retaliation. Simultaneously, Donald Trump has criticized James’ appointment as a special prosecutor for a Cornell University investigation into allegations involving New York Governor Kathy Hochul. Trump described James as a “dirty and disgusting cop” and a “third rate, crooked politician,” arguing that her involvement prevents a fair investigation. Governor Hochul defended the appointment, stating it was necessary to ensure a thorough process after the public lost faith in the local district attorney. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-13: Donald Trump criticizes Letitia James' appointment as Cornell special prosecutor Donald Trump has called for New York Attorney General Letitia James to be removed as special prosecutor in the Cornell University rape investigation, labeling her appointment corrupt. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/donald-trump-criticizes-letitia-james-appointment-as-cornell-special-prosecutor ### 2026-10-11: Letitia James accused of hypocrisy over whistleblower records release New York Attorney General Letitia James is accused of hypocrisy after releasing the personnel records of whistleblower Daniel Wiesenfeld, who alleged improper pressure to investigate Donald Trump. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/letitia-james-accused-of-hypocrisy-over-whistleblower-records-release --- Cite as: Controversies surrounding Letitia James.
