Kenyan Senator Karen Nyamu has been involved in a series of public controversies regarding her conduct and presence at various events.

In late September, Nyamu was heckled by crowds during an endometriosis awareness event at the KICC Comesa Grounds. Attendees interrupted her speech with political chants, which Nyamu claimed were orchestrated by comedian Eric Omondi and MC Antonio to score political points. The disruption overshadowed the event’s goal of highlighting women’s health legislation.

By early October, Nyamu faced renewed scrutiny following the circulation of video footage showing her sucking her thumb while using a mobile phone during a Senate sitting. The footage led to social media debate, with some critics labeling her the ‘TikTok senator’ and questioning her professionalism during parliamentary proceedings, while others defended her against what they viewed as disproportionate reactions.
