A civil lawsuit filed by a Cornell University student, referred to as ‘Jane Doe,’ has drawn significant public attention following allegations of a 2024 gang rape involving members of the Chi Phi fraternity. While the fraternity was dissolved and disciplinary actions were taken, the survivor is now suing the university, alleging a failure to provide protection. The case has become a focal point for public debate involving various celebrities. Singer Olivia Rodrigo expressed support for the survivor, advocating for ‘economic reparations’ such as therapy funding and scholarships for sexual assault survivors. Media personality Megyn Kelly has faced backlash for her response to these developments. On her podcast and YouTube channel, Kelly criticized Rodrigo, suggesting the singer should ‘shut up and stick to singing’ and focus on her music rather than engaging in cultural debates. Kelly also faced condemnation from the survivor’s attorney, Thomas Giuffra, who described her remarks as ‘mean-spirited’ and ‘abusive.’ Cornell University has initiated an independent external investigation into its handling of the original incident. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-08: Megyn Kelly criticizes Olivia Rodrigo over Cornell rape case support Megyn Kelly criticized singer Olivia Rodrigo for expressing support and calling for economic reparations for a survivor in a Cornell University rape case. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/megyn-kelly-criticizes-olivia-rodrigo-over-cornell-rape-case-support-1 ### 2026-10-06: Megyn Kelly criticized for remarks on Cornell sexual assault case Megyn Kelly has faced intense criticism for attacking singer Olivia Rodrigo and the survivor of the ‘Cornell 7’ case after the singer expressed support for the alleged sexual assault victim. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/megyn-kelly-criticizes-olivia-rodrigo-over-cornell-7-lawsuit-comments --- Cite as: Cornell University sexual assault case controversy.
