Developments: 2. Three Costa Rican fishermen were rescued alive after being missing at sea since September 21. The crew of the artisanal fishing vessel ‘El Cosmo’, identified as Captain Omar Dunkley Salazar, Erick Hernández Madriz, and Dexter González Presida, were located in Panamanian Caribbean waters. The rescue was the result of a coordinated maritime operation involving the Costa Rican National Coast Guard and Panamanian authorities, including the National Aeronaval Service (Senan) and the National Border Service. The crew had been adrift for approximately six days after their boat’s engine failed near the border between Costa Rica and Panama. A critical breakthrough occurred when one of the crew members managed to connect to a Panamanian cellular network and placed a 9-1-1 emergency call. Following this call, Panamanian authorities deployed a patrol boat and an aircraft to locate the vessel approximately 20 nautical miles north of Cuango, in the province of Colón. The fishermen were found in stable condition and transferred to the Almirante Cristóbal Colón Aeronaval Base for medical attention. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-28: Costa Rican fishermen rescued alive in Panama Three Costa Rican fishermen were rescued alive in Panamanian waters after being missing at sea for six days following an engine failure on their vessel, El Cosmo. 9 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/costa-rican-fishermen-rescued-alive-after-week-missing-at-sea ### 2026-09-26: Costa Rican Red Cross searches for two fishermen missing after flash flood The Costa Rican Red Cross is searching for two fishermen swept away by a flash flood in the Aguas Frías River in Pococí. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/costa-rican-red-cross-searches-for-two-fishermen-missing-after-flash-flood --- Cite as: Costa Rican fishermen maritime rescue.
