In early September 2026, the Judicial Investigation Organism (OIJ) in Costa Rica faced two distinct incidents involving personnel and organized crime.

On September 2, an OIJ officer and a suspect were injured during a confrontation in Guápiles, Pococí, while agents from the Organized Crime section were tracking the individual. Both parties were transported to a medical center.

Following this, on September 5, an OIJ official in Pococí identified as Rojas was detained. The official is under investigation for alleged dereliction of duty and facilitating impunity after failing to report a driver’s license belonging to Alejandro Arias Monge, known as ‘Diablo’. Investigators believe the failure to report the document, which was found among the belongings of a deceased individual, may be linked to the criminal structure associated with the priority target ‘Diablo’.
