Initially, a multidisciplinary team from the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC) constructed an autonomous lunar rover using existing university laboratory resources. The project was designed to support future lunar exploration missions and demonstrated the country’s capacity for aerospace engineering through self-reliance. Subsequently, a team of eight engineering students from the University of Costa Rica (UCR), known as Jade, entered the A Rocket Launch for International Student Satellites (ARLISS) competition in Nevada. Their project, ‘Proyecto Lázaro’, features an autonomous two-wheeled rover built with aluminum and 3D-printed components.
