Recent criminal activity in La Matanza has involved targeted violence and armed robberies. In Tapiales, a 72-year-old retired merchant was shot in the back by individuals on a motorcycle while unloading groceries. The victim underwent surgery after a bullet stopped near his spinal cord, though no vital organs were damaged. In Gregorio de Laferrere, an investigation into a September 12 armed home invasion led to the arrest of 25-year-old Agustín Adolfo Guerrero. Masked assailants had entered a residence to steal money from two sleeping women. Authorities used security footage to track a getaway vehicle, eventually conducting raids that resulted in the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and the vehicle used in the crime. In San Justo, a resident shot and killed 20-year-old Lautaro Agustín Lencina during an attempted carjacking on Malabia Street. Investigators stated that after two suspects intercepted a driver, one assailant pointed a firearm at a bystander who tried to intervene. The resident fired a revolver in self-defense of both himself and the third party. The shooting was captured on security footage, and while an accomplice fled on foot, local authorities and prosecutors determined the shooter acted in “legitimate defense,” resulting in no restrictive measures being taken against him. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-24: La Matanza: Neighbor kills thief in self-defense during carjacking attempt A man in La Matanza, Argentina, killed a 20-year-old thief in self-defense during a carjacking attempt.
