Police activity in Maracaibo, Venezuela, has recently focused on violent crime and illegal practices. In late September, authorities in Zulia arrested a 58-year-old man, José Luis Viloria, who was wanted under a judicial warrant related to a femicide investigation. In a separate incident during the same period, officers apprehended a man for practicing dentistry without professional credentials or academic authorization.

By early October, investigations into violent crime continued with the arrest of Daniel Alejandro Karmowski Machado for the murder of professional ice skater Greina Noraly Galbán Arias. The Criminal Investigation and Scientific Corps (CICPC) determined that Machado shot the victim following a dispute over their relationship and subsequently attempted to stage the scene as a suicide. Investigators recovered a .38 caliber revolver believed to be the weapon, and the suspect remains in the custody of the Public Ministry.
